This workshop will be hosted by The Peace River Museum, Archives, and Mackenzie Centre, as the 2016 recipient of the Robert R. Janes Award for Social Responsibility. #MuseumsDoMore The morning will consist of a round table discussion with staff from the Peace River Museum and their community partners on the importance of reciprocity in building relationships, and the role of museums in facilitating larger conversations about important topics such as Truth and Reconciliation. The afternoon will delve deeper into the place of museums in the process of reconciliation. Participants will visit several partners in Peace River, including the Sagitawa Friendship Centre, and learn about cultural awareness while participating in a traditional feast. The Peace River Museum is a leader in creating exhibitions and programs that bring diverse community groups together to address sensitive and challenging topics. This one day workshop will explore how museums can establish reciprocal relationships with like-minded organizations in order to build a stronger, more respectful community.
