Request for Poster Session Proposals for AMA / WMA Joint
International Conference: UNITE
The Alberta Museums Association (AMA) and Western Museums
Association (WMA) are pleased to host a joint international
conference in Edmonton, Alberta on September 20 - 23, 2017. The AMA
and WMA are thrilled to announce the official Request for Proposals
for the 2017 Poster Session. This is familiar format for WMA
members to share their innovative practices and an exciting
opportunity for AMA members to share the exceptional work being
done at their museums.
The goal of the Poster Session is to showcase how museums
address the theme of theUNITEconference through collaboration in
order to address and adapt to the demands of their local, national,
and global communities. This Poster Session is an opportunity to
obtain new insights, share ideas and projects, and network with
museum colleagues in an informal setting.
Submitting a Poster Presentation Proposal

Poster Session Proposal Form and send it to email@example.com by
June 2, 2017.
Purpose of the Poster Session
1. To engage in dialogue with colleagues about some of the most
current work in our field;
2. To encourage emerging museum professionals and other new
presenters to share their work;
3. To showcase projects and research currently being undertaken in
and for museums; and,
4. To encourage museum professionals to seek principles that can
guide efforts to improve practice.
Who Can Submit a Proposal?
The AMA and the WMA are dedicated to leading museums and museum
professionals by providing vision, enrichment, intellectual
challenge, and a forum purposeful communication that encourages
dynamic learning and creativity. Submissions are invited from the
1. Post-secondary students and faculty in museum studies, public
history, and / or related fields who have completed significant or
promising work on museum-based projects or research;
2. Emerging museum professionals with less than five years of
experience in the museum field; and,
3. Staff and consultants working in or with museums on new work,
particularly in Alberta, the location ofUNITE.
Each presenter will prepare a poster, handouts, and other
materials as relevant. Conference attendees will be invited to walk
from display to display, read the posters and other materials, and
interact with the presenters. Poster sizes should be between 50x63
cm (20x25 inches) and 76x106 cm (30x42 inches). Easels will be
provided to display the posters.
Presenters must be available to discuss their projects /
research and answer questions on Friday, September 22,
2017 from 10:15 a.m.-11:00 a.m. (posters will be available
throughout the day in the Exhibit Hall). Presenters must be
knowledgeable about the projects / research study. If accepted,
presenters will be sent guidelines for content, format, and
delivery of materials.
