The Alberta Museums Association (AMA) was founded in 1971 as a non-profit society through which museum workers could meet for the benefit of Alberta's developing museum community. Today, the AMA counts more than 200 Institutional and 250 Individual Members among its membership of Alberta museums and museum professionals.

The AMA is a member-driven organization that serves the needs of its membership. It consists of an elected, volunteer Board, an Executive Director, and a Secretariat to provide leadership, aid, and service to the Alberta community.

The AMA is accredited under Imagine Canada's Standards Program, a Canada-wide set of shared standards for charities and non-profits designed to help organizations strengthen their operations in five fundamental areas: board governance; financial accountability and transparency; fundraising; staff management; and volunteer involvement.

The AMA is also certified as a living wage employer by the Alberta Living Wage Network. This supports ongoing work to encourage fair and equitable wages across the sector including funds paid to employees, temporary workers, and contractors.

Our Mission: The Alberta Museums Association leads, facilitates, and supports museums in their vital role with communities.
