Invite Your Elected Officials

The Alberta Museums Association (AMA) is encouraging its Institutional Members to invite their Elected Officialsto visit their museums this spring and summer in order to showcase how museums are leading contributors to the social, cultural, and educational fabric of Alberta.

A key goal of the #MeetYourMuseum campaign is to increase the awareness with all government representatives of the importance and value of museums to their communities, and an in-person experience is an excellent way to communicate our sector's value!

Unsure of what to highlight in your invitation?

  • Offer a special "behind the scenes" tour of an exhibit or collections area;
  • Provide them with a customized invitation to an existing event or opening;
  • Invite them to take part in one of your educational programs;
  • Host a community BBQ;
  • Use this fact sheet to share information that focusses on the value of arts, culture, and heritage institutions to society.

The AMA has created template letters that your museum can use. Please feel free to add to or edit them to customize your museum's specific invitation.

We encourage you to reach out to your elected officials at their constituency office early, as spring and summer can be busy times and itineraries can fill up quickly. Invite your MLAs, MPs, and municipal officials to visit; the museum sector benefits with broad public engagement!
