2021 Conference Series

Thank you for joining us for the 2021 Conference Series!

The Alberta Museums Association (AMA) wishes to extend our thanks to all the delegates, presenters, volunteers, event hosts, and honoured guests for making our 50^th Anniversary Conference Series such a success! We would also like to thank our Conference Sponsors for making this event series possible through their generous support, and thank our amazing tech team at Details Convention & Event Management for ensuring the digital events ran smoothly.

The 2021 Conference Series examined the dynamic ways museums embed the four pillars of Reconciliation, Inclusion, Community, and Innovation into their work to represent, engage, and connect with the people and world around them. Over four virtual events in March, June, September, and November, these guiding pillars were explored in four keynote presentations with speakers from Alberta, Canada, the United States, and England, and twenty-four breakout sessions with over fifty individual presenters.

This year, the online environment allowed sessions to take on unique formats with virtual presentations, discussion forums, lightning talks, and workshops. It also enabled contributors to share their work in other ways: a tie-in podcast,  blog posts and articles, interviews, roundtable discussions, and more. 

This year marked the AMA's 50^th Anniversary, and we are so grateful to have had the opportunity to celebrate and connect with members of the museum community throughout the year. It was heartwarming to hear all the fond memories members hold of past conferences, courses, workshops, and other AMA events over the decades. To say thank you to all the members of the AMA - past and present - we took a look through our own archives and created the video below reflecting the past 50 years.

Our 2021 Conference Series has been an incredible opportunity for Alberta's museum community to "meet together apart." Thank you for joining us throughout 2021 to celebrate the AMA's 50^th Anniversary and the work of the amazing sector we support.
