Are you in a rural community and struggling to get visitors
through your door? Are you unsure how to remain relevant to your
community as the local population, and your membership, ages? Do
you know your museum could be doing more, but feel hindered by a
lack of staff or resources? Let's try and solve these issues
together!
This session reviews strategies that small-town museums can use
to promote their museums to their visiting communities. With an
emphasis on how best to use low-cost or no-cost strategies, we will
discuss finances, staffing resources, physical spaces,
partnerships, programming, and technology.
Come prepared for an open dialogue with fellow museum
professionals and ready to share your own strategies! With
opportunities to collaborate in small group breakout rooms and
practical takeaways and resources, this session is a chance to
share with others in similar circumstances and connect for
potential partnerships and further learning. Be ready to turn on
your microphones and cameras!
Questions to Consider
- What strategies has your museum used in the past that have been
effective for community service or growth?
- How has the COVID-19 pandemic shifted your museum operations or
capabilities?
- What barriers does your museum encounter that make providing
services to your visitors difficult?
